Louvre Museum - The Louvre is one of the largest museums in the world. The museum has about 300,000 works of art. The history of the Louvre goes back to the Middle Ages. In 1190 was by King Philippe-Auguste on the site of the current Louvre fortress built to protect against the Vikings. The foundations of the towers and the drawbridge of the fortress have been excavated and are on display. In the 16th century the fortress was rebuilt by King Francis I in Renaissance style, and in the subsequent four centuries, the building was continuously expanded by the French kings and emperors.
