The 9th district is the district of the department stores and old theaters. Boulevard Haussmann the popular shopping district with Galeries Lafayette and Printemps close to each other showcases the latest fashion trends and all the big luxury brands. The area, roughly between the Place de la Madeleine and the Place de la Bastille, has always been the business centre of Paris. Located in the south part of the 9th arrondissement, is the former Opéra Garnier, a magnificent opera house.
